About Chelsea, OK - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Chelsea is a town in Rogers County, Oklahoma named after the area in London, England. A nice place to raise kids and a lovely hometown for people who enjoy a slow pace of life, Chelsea is certainly not boring. People are always out and you will see families enjoying the town no matter what the weather might be. Seasonal weather is a plus for residents who like to watch the seasons change as the months pass.
This community was once thought to be an oil-rich territory but those dreams crashed and burned quickly. According to the American Oil & Gas Historical Society, Edward Byrd discovered oil seeps in 1882. It seems that he took no action on the oil until 1887, when he and William B. Linn - along with a group of investors from Kansas - created the United States Oil and Gas Company (USOGC). The rudimentary operation produced a measly half barrel of good-quality crude per day from a depth of 11 meters. This was enough for USOGC enthusiasts to claim it was, "... the first oil well in Oklahoma."[5]Chelsea's claim to the first oil well proved to be untrue. Although USOGC drilled ten other wells over the next two years, the total output was economically inconsequential and the oil company closed shortly after it opened.
The area is the original stomping grounds of Will Rogers (November 4, 1879 – August 15, 1935). He was a stage and motion picture actor, vaudeville performer, humorist, newspaper columnist, and commentator who was a Cherokee Indian. Today, he is known as "Oklahoma's Favorite Son.” Rogers was born to an important Cherokee family in Indian Territory but travelled the world 3 times over in his time as an entertainer, actor, writer and cowboy. He made a stunning 71 films and wrote over 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns in his time.
